FORMER Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks is at the centre of a court case this morning, as a woman who claims that she punched her prepares to sue over her injuries. Ebanks - who was never arrested or charged over the alleged altercation, which it's claimed took place in November - is said to have struck Liza Irizarry in a disagreement over Banks' boyfriend, television presenter Terrence J.
Irizarry - who is a model on Spanish-speaking US television channel Telemundo - says Ebanks became incensed with her when she kissed Terrence J on the cheek and subsequently hit her on the nose. She claims that her injuries following the fight, which took place in Miami's Dream nightclub, left her in agony and that her doctor told her she had a complex nasal fracture and nasal obstruction, which required surgery days later.
"I'm so angry, because she thinks she can get away with anything," Irizarry told the New York Daily News. "You shouldn't be allowed to put your hands on anyone for no reason. Me saying hello to someone doesn't give you the right to hit me."
Although Irizarry filed a police report, no charges were ever brought - so now she is seeking damages for pain, suffering and medical bills in the suit filed at Hudson County Superior Court, near Ebanks' New Jersey home. Ebanks' lawyer responded that the suit "is nine months old and completely without merit", adding that Ebanks insists that "the claims are baseless".
