Gucci has won a trademark ruling against the great-grandsons of its founder, who have been found guilty of infringement of Gucci's trademarks. ToBeG Srl, a handbags and accessories firm created by Guccio Gucci and his brother Alessandro, used the name Guccio Gucci in some branding and marketing - which the judge deemed to be likely to cause "confusion with Gucci's products and business activities" for the consumer. Guccio Gucci worked for the Gucci brand for 12 years on the research and production of the brand's hides, until he and his father Giorgio established an independent handbag line in 1989. This isn't the first time that the Gucci brand has taken action to stop members of the family from profiting from the Gucci name. In 2009, it won a trademark case against Jennifer Gucci, the former wife of Paolo Gucci, grandson of Guccio Gucci, and their daughter Gemma Gucci, who were accused of licensing the name for coffee shops, bedding and other items, WWD reports. Two years ago, a suit was brought by the brand against Cosimo Gucci in Hong Kong, when he planned to launch a luxury goods line; whilst another stopped Elisabetta Gucci from launching a global chain of hotels under her name - also in 2010.
