Kiki Kamanu By Kiki Kamanu

Kiki is of American & Nigerian parentage, was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and educated both in the United States and France. She now divides her time between New York, Paris and Lagos. This former runway-model-turned-corporate event planner with Harvard University, is the face of her eponymous fashion label. With several years experience designing her own clothes and handbags, coupled with her love of travel, she is able to draw her inspiration from a myriad of sources.
“I have always been drawn to the creativity of the cultures that I have experienced in my travels and have collected one of a kind crafts, jewelry and fabrics from far flung locations such as Istanbul, Dubai, Colombo, Marrakech and Tokyo.” Her childhood is also dotted with memories of traveling through the Nigerian countryside and marveling at the colourful indigenous Ásóòkè and Akwete fabrics.
Her  mission is not only to introduce the beauty and versatility of these fabrics beyond the continent, but also to dress the fashion leader from day to evening wear and from business meeting to cocktail party – all the while maintaining his and her unique look.
This creativity and eye for beauty has been passed down to her by the women in her life. Her artistic flair was initially stirred by the Japanese porcelain and artwork that covered her maternal American grandmother’s home; mementos from her life in post-war Japan. Her mother also infused her life with an eclectic blend of the Middle East and South Asia: “She had an impressive collection of Indonesian batiks and wooden furniture, antique tribal rugs, and stunning clothing of exquisite fabrics that she collected in her travels around the world.”
“I have fun incorporating these influences into my daily wardrobe, and I am constantly approached by people at social events, or stopped on the street about what I am wearing or the hand bag I am carrying. How disappointing to walk into a room to find someone else wearing the same outfit or carrying the same bag! I continue to use this as a guide as I design my pieces: Ordinary? Never! Unique? Always!”

"If you are in Lagos, join us at the new Grey Velvet Boutique ( opp Mango) at the new Ikeja Mall. Be sure to ask for the special 25% off all Kiki Kamanu items! Hurry, this offer ends soon!!"
