Because nowadays we make television shows about everyone from rat hoarders to people trying to clone their pets, soon we will get to enjoy seeing toddlers breastfeed from the comfort of our own homes. God bless America, eh?
After witnessing the considerable press generated by Time magazine’s controversial extreme parenting cover back in May, production company Collins Avenue has decided to capitalize on the hubbub and develop a reality show centered on mothers who breastfeed their children well past infancy. Exploitative? Yes. Surprising? Not so much, given that this is the same company that has brought us such quality programming as Dance Moms and American Stuffers — which, if you are not familiar, follows the exploits and intrigue of Romance, Arkansas’ own Xtreme Taxidermy.
In this case, however (as in that of ever-popular Toddlers and Tiaras), the people who are being exploited are not nearly old enough to make the decision to broadcast their lives onscreen.
Will you still tune in and feed into the madness? Or is this just taking it a step too far?
