Victoria Beckham F/W 2012 vs. Mango Fall 2012

Military has been a fall/winter staple for several seasons now–so it came as no surprise when we started seeing that military olive drab filling up display windows. But what did come as a surprise was the blatancy with which some designers’ work had been ripped off for a high street price tag. Case in point? This Mango dress from the brand’s current fall collection, which bears a striking resemblance to a Victoria Beckham dress we saw on the runway for F/W ’12.
The only obvious difference between the two pieces lies in the chest region (the Mango dress substitutes a triangular black panel for Victoria Beckham’s breast pockets)–but as for everything else? Pretty darn similar. Black, baseball-tee style half-length sleeves? Check. Shoulder epaulets? Got ‘em. Structured chest seams? Yurp. But the most noticeable similarity lies in the skirt: A knee-length pencil shape with a black waist band and rectangular hip plackets. They’re pretty identical.
It seems like Mango should take a lesson from Victoria Beckham: Girl power is all about being an individual. What do you think? Is Mango’s fall dress’s likeness to VB’s a coincidence or total copycat?
