Oscar De La Renta Honored By Couture Council's Award for Artistry from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology

OSCAR DE LA RENTA has been honoured with the . The designer was presented with the accolade at a star-studded luncheon at the city's Lincoln Centre yesterday.
"I'm an unbelievably lucky man," de la Renta said during his award acceptance speech, WWD reports. "I love what I do. Today, if you play tennis, you can be a
really good designer or, if you're an actress, you can be a designer. I've been at it for 45 years and I'm still learning my craft on a daily basis."
Past recipients of the Couture Council Awards include Valentino in 2011; Karl Lagerfeld in 2010; Dries Van Noten in 2009; Giorgio Armani and Isabel Toledo in 2008; Alber Elbaz in 2007; and Ralph Rucci in 2006.

"Oscar de la Renta is a true fashion superstar who has long served as one of the greatest ambassadors of American style," said FIT museum director Valerie Steele. "His clothes - which draw on the heritage of Spain and the French haute couture, as well as on the dynamism of contemporary New York high fashion - convey a sense of luxury and drama that have earned him acclaim throughout the world."
