Check Out The Most Expensive Puppy Wedding

In an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for most expensive pet wedding, last night an itty-bitty Coton de Tulear named Baby Hope Diamond got married to a tie-dyed poodle named Chilly Pasternak. The cost of the ‘puptials’? A whopping $158,187.26, according to the AP (the New York Daily News is reporting the cost at $250,000–either way, it’s a lot).
The stunt, put on by Baby Hope Diamond’s owner Wendy Diamond, was all for a good cause and benefited the Humane Society of New York. Oh, and considering a 1996 cat wedding in Thailing which rang in at $16,241 was the previous record holder, Baby Hope and Chilly easily pawed their way into the record book.
So how does a doggy wedding add up to $158,187 (or $250,000)? An expensive gown helps. Baby Hope Diamond’s dress reportedly cost $6,000. According to Wendy Diamond’s site Animal Fair, it was designed by Henry Roth, who usually designs wedding dresses for people. It’s a lot of money for a wedding dress that uses a fraction of the material of a normal wedding dress, especially considering that Roth’s dresses generally cost, according to his site, around $2,200. This revelation led my friend, who is getting married soon, to muse over GChat, “that dog’s dress is more $$$ than mine and it is not much fabric…i can’t even figure out how it would cost 6 thousand dollars.” We can’t really either. Upon close inspection, there do appear to be some sparkles at Baby Hope Diamond’s collar–maybe they are doggy diamonds? It is in her name, after all.
